Carl J. May, MD
Carl J. May Jr., MD is a distinguished Cataract and LASIK surgeon whose skill and experience make him well versed in the field of ophthalmic surgery. Dr. May graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD with a degree in Business. He went on to receive a Masters Degree in Physiology at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
He then graduated from Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, PA and completed an internship in medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware and Christiania Hospital. Dr. May practiced for a year as a family doctor before starting his residency in eye surgery at Stony Brook and Nassau County Medical Center in New York.
Dr. May began his ophthalmology career in Hanover, PA in 1994. In 2001, he started his own practice, the MECCA. As a board certified surgeon by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. May is a revered member of a number of medical societies. Dr. May’s trademark skill is in Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
In his continual quest for knowledge, he has researched, published, and presented to several prestigious medical groups regarding numerous cutting-edge techniques within the field of ophthalmic surgery. Today, he continues to push forward in the field of LASIK and Cataract Surgery.
He was the first to introduce many new state-of-the-art techniques to the Central Pennsylvania area. He most recently adopted innovations including Wavefront or WaveScan technology and the VISX STAR S4, all used to most accurately perfrom LASIK surgery.
Dr. May remains the only ophthalmologist in the area providing such advanced technology and recommends that everything have a wavescan prior to LASIK Surgery. He has appeared on many news and television programs including WGAL’S “12:30 live” to educate the public about eye surgery. He has also appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines.
