What are Cataracts?

Cataracts are a natural part of aging. When the clear lens within the eye becomes clouded over time this is a cataract. The clouding of the lens usually happens very slowly and may be difficult to notice at first. Colors may not be as vivid. Glare may be noticed when driving at night or in bright sunlight. Small print becomes more difficult to read and even television can be difficult to see.

When should I have them removed?

When a cataract becomes visually significant and interferes with your daily routine or lifestyle it is time to talk to your doctor about its removal. The level of visual impairment necessary for cataract removal can vary from patient to patient. Some patients may not be bothered by a dense cataract while others find it difficult to function even with a small cataract. When deciding to have cataract surgery, there are more options than ever before that can get you out of your glasses completely in some cases. Read more about our Premium IOL’s.

ReLACS is Laser Cataract Surgey or Bladeless Cataract Surgery

ReLACS (Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery) is Laser Cataract Surgery. Like a fingerprint, every eye has a unique size and shape. Prior to treatment, the laser images your eye and makes precise 3D maps of relevant structures. This enables your surgeon to create a tailored treatment plan that is uniquely customized for your eye. Your surgeon can use the Laser to create precise incisions, including a circular opening in the lens capsule to break up and remove the cataract. This precise incision helps your surgeon place the new artificial lens where intended. The accurate positioning and insertion of the artifical lens implant optimizes the visual outcome.

ReLACS takes pictures and measurements of each eye that are used to plan and perform the surgery to exacting specifications not attainable with traditional surgery.Because each eye is anatomically different, ReLACS allows each eye to be carefully measured for specific treatment. ReLACS is a safer, simpler alternative to traditional cataract surgery. If you desire to see well without glasses or contacts after cataract surgery, your surgeon may reccomend a tailored treatment that includes a precise Laser incisions in the cornea and a specific lens implant type. These types include a monofocal lens for vision at one distance, a multifocal lens for intermediate and far vision and a Toric lens to correct astigmatism.ReLACS allows patients to move forward with confidence knowing that they have chosen the most advanced technology available for this life-changing procedure.
